ARC Review: Angel Betrayed by Cynthia Eden

She’s Irresistible & He’s Unbreakable

Title: Angel Betrayed
Author: Cynthia Eden
Series: The Fallen #2
Publisher: Brava
Release Date: June 26, 2012

A Little Bit Of Angel Lust.

Sammael – call him Sam – was an angel once. An angel of death. But the dispassionate, watch-from-above thing just wasn’t working for him when it meant watching evil torture innocent souls day in and day out. It might have cost him his wings, but these days, he gets to apply the direct method on the bad guys. Problem is, what’s making his life difficult is a bad girl…

Seline O’Shaw needs protection, and with the hounds of hell on her tail, she’s not going to quibble too hard about where she gets it. Sam’s virtue is questionable, but he’s smoking hot, massively powerful, and owes her a favor. So what if she’s getting a little case of angel lust? There are some damn deadly sins after her hide…

His tongue licked her lips and stroked inside her mouth. Slow. Easy. As if he were sampling her. Her tongue slipped to meet his. To taste. To want. When he pulled back, she had to fight to keep her hands off him. His gaze studied her a moment, and she bared dared to breathe. “I’m not human,” he finally agreed, his voice a deep rumble. “But neither are you, sweetheart. Neither are you.”

Wow! I knew I would enjoy this book, but I had no idea just how much I would LOVE it. Cynthia Eden has quickly paved her way as one of my favorite paranormal romance authors. Her books are fast paced, sexy as sin, incredibly hot and unforgettable. Like Seline and Sammael I was addicted to Angel Betrayed from the very first page. One moment I’m laughing, the next I’m luxuriating in the sexiness, then I’m cheering on the good guys with in Edens novels are sometimes really the delicious bad boys, and then I find myself crying because I’ve become so unbelievable wrapped up in these characters lives that when they feel pain I feel it right along with them.

It was killing time, and he could kill a man as easily as he could caress a lover.

In the prologue we witness Sammael an Angel of Death fall from Grace. He was frighteningly sexy, and I admired that he could no longer sit back and watch men rape, and murder women and children without hashing out his own death punishment. Quickly I was immersed  into his charming character and I enjoyed his strong Alpha-Licious persona he oozed. I was infatuated with him instantly and I’m not sure how Seline was able to keep her hands off of him for so long because I found him simply irresistible. He’s a dark, dauntless character and he’s definitely someone you want on your side when there’s a target on your back. Therefore he’s not surprised when the succulent Seline whom he also employs comes to him in dire need of protection from men endangering her life. But you don’t live this long escaping Hell without being able to smell a trap when it’s right in front underneath his nose.

“I’m not here to save the world,” he told her, and then he reached for her again. Wait-the jerk was moving her out of his way, not trying to embrace her. Then he yanked open the door and told her,  ”Sweetheart, I’m just here to watch it burn.”

Both are unsure what the other is, but one thing they can be sure of is that neither Sammael nor Seline are human. But he’s already mesmerized by Seline’s charm long before she asked for his help, so he’s willing to do what’s necessary to discover her motives and perhaps get to know her better…..physically.

Unfortunately for her kind, lust was kryptonite. The closer the temptation, the stronger the weakness.

Seline is such a fearless and fun character! I instantly was mesmerized by her mysterious yet manipulative nature. She’s a seductress that knows what she wants, and goes after it. Fortunately when her plans fail to work she goes right back to work to obtain that goal she’s seeking. I find those fascinating qualities in a heroine because as an ambitious person myself I revel in reading ambitious characters, even if their ambition is to suck a mans soul dry. Lol. Seline may be a beautiful blonde temptress on the outside but she also has a genuinely kind and beautiful heart on the inside that she keeps hidden under her courageous interior.

“He’s a real piece of work. A fallen.” He shook his head and kept walking. “Can you believe an angel would be dumb enough to fall from Heaven?”

“I’ve seen dumber things.” Like you, just walking away from me now after you admitted you left me to die. Seline grabbed the nearest object she could find–a metal chair that she lifted easily–and slammed it into the back of Alex’s head.

He’s suspicions of Seline’s motives lead him to spend quality time with her investigating brutal murders of other fallen and she might just be next. Sammael cannot possibly leave Seline to a fate as brutal as these murders even though he’s not sure if she will be the death of him, and that’s saying a lot because well he’s unstoppable. One thing Samuel is sure of is that Seline is everything his bad boy self desires but everything his angel side tells him to walk away. She’s his drug of choice and he’s addicted, but he’s not alone because Seline may be frightened of Samuel, one thing is for sure is that when he’s around she craves him. Let me just say that Samuel knows his way around a bedroom and a woman’s body because the provocative scenes in this book kept me blushing as they were scorchingly hot and I indulged in every bit if them.

“I can bring death with my touch.” His lips brushed over hers. She didn’t flinch. He took that as a sign of progress. “Or I can bring pleasure.”

It was all a matter of what he wanted.

With her, he wanted pleasure.

Together they begin to track Sammael’s brother Azrael or also referred to as AZ that he is suspicious of and has now fallen from grace himself leaving both desiring the others bloodshed. While searching for AZ a punishment angel named Rogziel that raised Seline from a child is seeking to wipe out “other” which are supernatural creatures that he has decided to hand out their judgement of death for being an abomination in his words. He’s a disgraceful angel and I just wanted him to fall. While on this journey Sammael and Seline finally realize the magnetic pull that I noticed on the first page between these two. They’re such a breathtaking couple that each time they’re around one another it’s as if the world ceases to exist.

When she could suck in a full breath, she tasted power and pleasure. And knew–as she’d suspected from the beginning–that she’d found an addiction.

This book made me cry so hard towards the end as I felt all hope was lost, and though I really truly hate crying in books, I must say that Cynthia Eden is such an amazingly talented author that can make me fall in love with her characters, feel their pain and joy simultaneously with them. This was my first book I’ve had the pleasure to read by Cynthia Eden and this won’t be the last. I highly recommend Angel Betrayed to fans of paranormal romance, and lonely  characters that seem unlikely to get together but in the end all that matters is that they have trust and love and the rest will come easily.

This is a story about being lost, finding love, redemption and sacrificing all that’s good for the one you love! Would you sacrifice a gift or something beautiful for true love? I know I sure would, and this is why I enjoyed Samuel & Seline’s story from beginning to end!

Angel in Chains releases in November 27, 2012 and I can’t wait to read it. Now that he’s survived I’m so curious to see what’s in store for Azrael (AZ)  story because he’s a brutal bad boy, but I see a bit of goodness in him and I hope that he and Sammael can have a relationship.

“Death was his business, and his business was booming.”

  4. Cimmaron says:

I put this book down to read another ARC and when I finish Once Burned I’m going right back to this. I loved Cynthia Eden’s Bound novellas so I am really looking forward to this.

  5. I liked this but since my copy was an ARC, I was looking for page breaks on some parts. But the story is packed with action and how sexy are Seline & Sam? Although there were moments where I want to throttle him because he keeps on throwing Seline under the bus, at least he got schooled in the end and realized how much he loved her.

I too, am looking forward to Az’s story, he is my kind of badass.

  6. Annie your boyfriend says:
