Dark Frost Tour with Jennifer Estep Interview & Giveaways

Good morning!!! Please help me welcome the wonderful Jennifer Estep to Miss Vain’s Paranormal Fantasy today in celebration of her upcoming release of Dark Frost book #3 of one of my favorite YA series Mythos Academy!!!! Yay! I’m so excited to have her here.

1. With such a broad contrast between your Elemental Assassin series and your Mythos Academy series; Did anything in particular inspire you to write a series about Warrior Mythical creatures?

JE: It always seemed like when we had a movie day in school, we would watch the old Clash of the Titans movie with Harry Hamlin. Plus, I read things like The Iliad and The Odyssey for school assignments, as well as other mythological books and stories just for fun over the years. I just enjoy mythology, all the various interpretations, and all the stories of the gods, goddesses, warriors, creatures, and more battling each other and going on these epic quests.

One day, I thought it would be fun to write my own mythology-based story with my own characters and magic and try to put my own spin on all the gods, goddesses, and more. That was sort of the beginning of the Mythos Academy series.

2. Has a particular book you’ve read influenced your life? If so please share the book.

JE: One of my favorite books is Beauty by Robin McKinley. It’s a lovely retelling of the Beauty and the Beast fairy tale. Some of my other favorite authors include Donald Westlake, David Eddings, Robert B. Parker, Lisa Kleypas, and too many others to name.

Every time I read a great book, it always inspires me and makes me hope that I can write something as good someday.

3. If a famous Hollywood producer decided to turn your series Mythos Academy into a Television series, which celebrities would you chose for the roles of:

JE: There are a lot of great actors and actresses out there, but here are some of the folks I think would be cool:

Gwen: Emma Stone
Ian Somerhalder
Emily VanCamp
Clive Owen
Blake Lively

4. If you were a powerful Mythical creature from your Mythos Academy series; which Mythical creature would you be?

JE: I think it would be cool to be a gryphon and be able to fly.

5. Is the Spartan-Licous Logan (as I call him) based on anyone particular in your life?

JE: No, Logan’s not really based on anyone in particular. I think everyone at some point in their life has a crush on a cute guy or girl who happens to be one of the coolest kids in school, so that’s just sort of what I was channeling with Gwen and Logan.

6. It’s rare to see a comic book loving geek play a heroine in a book amongst warriors, but Gwen is an awesome heroine. Did you consciously write a unique character that went against the usual typical heroine? If yes, why?

JE: I always try to make my heroines smart, strong, and sassy. I also like to give them hobbies and interests. Everyone has their own likes and dislikes, and I think giving a character those things makes her more interesting and relatable – they just give a character that much more personality. In Gwen’s case, she happens to like reading and comic books.

7. If I asked your best friend, who would she reveal as your celebrity crush?

JE: I’m totally crushing on the guys from The Avengers right now – Jeremy Renner, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, and Robert Downey Jr.

8. If you could switch places with any fictional character in a book, which character would you chose to be and why?

JE: That’s a tough one, but I think it would be cool to be Hermione from the Harry Potter series and be so smart and organized.

9. Suddenly you have discovered yourself on the cover of a national newspaper *gasp*, the Headline would readJENNIFER ESTEP…….” please fill in the blanks.

JE: Jennifer Estep finally achieves world domination. LOL. Just kidding. I honestly don’t know what my headline would read, but I hope it would be something positive.

10. If you could live in Gwen’s world at Mythos Academy and be any Mythological Creature; Which would you chose to be, and what would be your supernatural gift?

JE: I think it would be fun to be a gryphon and be able to fly.

I had so much fun getting to know Jennifer Estep better! She’s truly is a gem. Hope you all enjoy her responses as much as I did.Thank you for taking the time to allow my readers and I to get to know you better.

  1. Emma Stone would be perfect as Gwen ! :)
    She can definitely do feisty.
Not sure about Ian Somerhalder for Logan though. It’s not how I imagined him to be.
This is a great interview, Miss Vain :)

      Hi Nick :)

I agree; Emma Stone can definitely do feisty. I especially loved her in Crazy Stupid Love. Also I had not originally pictured Logan as Ian Sommerhalder but I DO LOVE him as Damon on TVD, so I liked it. Who would you choose to play Logan?? ;) I’m curious now.:)

      Thank you!!! <3

  2. I can’t even tell you how much I love Jennifer Estep and her writing. I love both the Mythos Academy and Elemental Assassin series. I loved the actors she chose for the TV show. Somerhalder is just too good looking for words.

Awesome interview Jennifer and Ms. Vain. I’m not familiar with the actors that you picked except for Ian and he would not be my Logan, although he is hot. I always find it very hard to match actors to the characters in my head so I’m not even going to try :) And I just seen the Avengers the other day, it was awesome, those guys are definitely worth crushing on.
