Review: Night Pleasures by Sherrilyn Kenyon

Sizzling Paranormal Romance

Title: Night Pleasures
Author: Sherrilyn Kenyon
Series: Dark-Hunter #1
Publisher: St. Martin’s Press
Release Date: October 13, 2002

The Dark-Hunters are ancient warriors who have sworn to protect mankind and the fate of the world is in their hands. . .

He is solitude. He is darkness. He is the ruler of the night. Yet Kyrian of Thrace has just woken up handcuffed to his worst nightmare: An accountant. Worse, she’s being hunted by one of the most lethal vampires out there. And if Amanda Devereaux goes down, then he does too. But it’s not just their lives that are hanging in the balance. Kyrian and Amanda are all that stands between humanity and oblivion. Let’s hope they win.

“Since you can read my thoughts why don’t you answer it?” His smile widened hungrily like a wolf that had just found its next meal. “Yes, sweeting, I think you’re incredibly sexy. And I would love nothing more than to take you back to my place and make your toes curl.”

This was my first book by Sherrilyn Kenyon and although it wasn’t a five star book for me, and cheesy at times it was still a solid beginning to a passionate PNR series and I can already tell this won’t be my last. This book reminded me why paranormal romance is my favorite genre of choice. I finished reading it earlier today and yet, it’s still on my mind. What I love about Sherrilyn Kenyon is that she knows her way around a bedroom!!!!

Swallowing hard, she dropped her hand. “I didn’t think vampires could have sex.” He arched a taunting brow at her. “Why don’t you and I conduct a little experiment and see?”

Night Pleasures immediately captured my attention when Amanda an accountant with psychic powers awakens to find herself handcuffed to the eye catching Kyrian a Dark Hunter. This Dark Hunter is cryptic and keeps most at arms length yet he oozes confidence and sexual prowess. Its intoxicating! Though Amanda found this predicament frightening, I found it to be my wildest fantasy minus the crazy and murderous Desiderius a powerful Daimon. The sexual tension between these two is almost immediate and I enjoyed every bit of it.

The Dark-Hunter pulled with a growl. It was then she realized what she’d done. “Oh God,”she breathed. “I just kissed a vampire!” “Oh gods, I just kissed a human!” Amanda narrowed her eyes on him. “Are you mocking me?”

Amanda is naive and had just became single after a horrible break up with her fiancé so it comes as no surprise that she is reluctant to act on her impulse of devouring this sexy and mysterious Dark Hunter, especially upon discovering he’s a *gasp* Vampire. Even with her prejudices toward vampires she is forced to rely on the mysterious Hunter Kyrian for protection while carefully guarding herself against him. Between his charisma,  wit, and all over deliciousness makes him be irresistible and it’s not long before she succumbs to his charm, while he guards his heart possessively.

“You have made me insane all day long,” he breathed. “I could sense you in turmoil and pain, but I didn’t know why. So, I called Grace and found out she was supposed to pick you up after work.”

While that all sounds sexy and enticing what I appreciate about Sherrilyn Kenyon’s writing is that she not only brings on the romance but she also intertwined a fast paced and exciting plot that enthralled me to no end. I’m looking forward to catching up on this series, that so many if my friends love. I’ve been reluctant to read these because the massive amounts of already released books in this series had me intimidated, yet now I regret waiting so very long to read these.

Many supporting characters have caught my interests as well, I’m looking forward to delving more into the stories of Nick, Talon, Tabitha and most importantly the HOT green haired vampire Archeron. In the past I’ve heard Archeron’s name mentioned many times from my friends and its safe to say he has already sank his devious fangs in me. Since I’m a sucker for a tortured, brooding and Alpha-Licious hero, I can already say that this series is going to be a favorite of mine.

He swallowed the lump in his throat that ached with desire for her and knew, in that moment, he had to banish her from his thoughts. He had to banish her from his thoughts. She could never be his. Her destiny was to return to a family who loved her and to find a mortal man who could…..He didn’t finish that thought. It was too painful to even contemplate.

  1. I love, love, LOVE this book. This series is just pure awesomeness. Thanks for the quotes. Such fond memories. I think I will have to pick up this book again. :)

This is my favorite series ever! Wait until you read archeron’s book! I think it’s my favorite although it’s really hard to choose just one

Your reviews always convince me to read a book!
And then my to-read list keeps increasing and increasing :P
I haven’t ever read a book by Sherrilyn Kenyon, but I’ve heard some great things about her writing.
With those quotes, you definitely pushed me to add this book to my wishlist :)
Thanks for the great review, Miss Vain :)

  4. I LOVE that your reading all the same stuff I read!! I just can’t wrap my mind around the fact that you’re just getting into this series!!! It was taunting to me at first but then, again, Sherrilyn was one of my first authors when I started reading PNR. I actually started with Fantasy Lover and believe me, the “cheese-factor” is a bit higher in that one ~ but still tolerable!!! I can’t wait until you get further!!! Oh Nick…. go to Sherrilyn’s website and grab a lookie-loo, if you dare, at the pic she has for his character!! HOT!!!!

So many books, so little time, right?!?!?

  5. braine says:

YAY! This is one of my all time favorite series! Talon’s is one of the hottest stories in the series and Acheron’s rival Zsadist’s. Kenyon does good male POV and I love her witty comebacks. I skipped th Dream Hunter books though but overall it’s hard not to gt tired of this series. There’s always someone new in the mix. Enjoy!

  6. YESSS! I love Kyrian! I started this series last year and left off at book 5, but I’ve been collecting the whole series little by little. Hopefully I get to read some more soon because I really like it. Great review! :)

  7. Ning says:

Yay so excited to see your review! I love this series! though I still have to read the books after Acheron. Kyrian it’s my first PNR huge crush! Now I want to find my copy of this and read it!

Great review! I’m so glad to see you starting this series, you won’t regret it! Can’t wait to see what you think of the others especially Talon, Tabitha, and Acheron’s stories!

  9. Tina B says:

Awesome review!! I love the quotes that you included. I remember reading this and could not get enough of this series! I used to buy the books 2 or 3 at a time. It introduced me to PNR! I still love it, but since I have read all of them, I have to wait for new ones to come out. You make me want to go back and re-read about Kyrian. He was one of my favorites! :)

  10. Cimmaron says:

Braine has read this series and loves it. She’s been telling me to start it but there are so many of them. But I really need to get to it one day because Braine says the sex scenes are HOT!

P.S – OMG! I love your kinkey fuckery icon!!!

  11. Alexa says:

OMG I love the Kinky Fuckery button you have!!! lol

This isn’t really the first book in this series there is a book before this called Fantasy Lover that does a great job at bringing up some of the Gods and Goddesses that the series will feature from time to time. Plus it brings about the Dark Hunters in a way that the first book doesn’t. Fantasy Lover is my favorite of this series so far even though it is loosely considered the first book. :)

I’m glad you liked this one, I was scared to start this long ass series as well but I figured it might just be a great series and so far I enjoy it.

    Thanks for the great review!

  12. I too LOVE the Kinky Fuckery button! I thinks I needs one too (someday) :) I’ve read a couple books in this series but I haven’t started at the very beginning yet. I think I MUST remedy this situation STAT!
