STAR CROSSED Angel & Demon LOVE
What if there were teens whose lives depended on being bad influences? This is life for sons and daughters of fallen angels in Sweet Evil.
Tenderhearted Southern girl, Anna Whitt, was born with the sixth sense to see and feel emotions of other people. She’s aware of a struggle within herself, an inexplicable pull toward danger, but it isn’t until she turns sixteen and meets the alluring Kaidan Rowe that she discovers her terrifying heritage, and her will-power is put to the test. He’s the boy your daddy warned you about. If only someone had warned Anna.
A cross-country trip to meet her father forces Anna to face the reality that hope and love are not options for her kind. When she confronts her destiny, will Anna embrace her halo or her horns?
“Now I understood what Kai tried to get me to see: There was nothing healthy about desperately wanting something you couldn’t have.”
Sweet Evil instantly captured my attention in the prologue where we watch helplessly as a child is being born, while her mother tragically dies during childbirth and the father is immediately arrested for drug trafficking. Sounds exciting right? Yes, well that’s how I felt.
Sweet and innocent Anna reluctantly accompanies her best friend Jay to the watch a local band play, and instantly finds herself mesmerized by Kaidan the drummer. I’ll admit that I too was equally as captivated by this bad boy rocker as well. He’s a flirt, he’s a heartbreaker, he’s everything your momma warned you about yet, he tugs at my heart strings the entire time I read it. From the moment Anna and Kaidan meet I couldn’t out this book down, I just had to known what happened with their story, because it was obvious this wasn’t going to be a fluffy love story. This story was dark, and gritty and just the way I prefer my reads to be.
“We can never be friends, Anna. Get it through your head now. There can be nothing.”
At the beginning I put this book down because I don’t like goody characters without much depth to their story, but thankfully I chose to pick the book back up because Anna grew on me. She started off as too wholesome for my taste and this quote almost caused me not to finish. Kaidan quickly begins teaching Anna the lifestyle as a nephilum, because they’re are rules, with dangerous consequences if broken. In this fascinating world Wendy Higgins has created they’re are twelve Dukes and Kaidan and Anna’s dads hold two of those coveted titles. The Dukes are bosses of the evil on earth, and they are the only demons capable of possessing a human body.
“Now I was leaving messages after he’d made it clear he wanted zero to do with me? Next thing I knew I’d be frequenting his shows to give him psycho stares from the back, and then doing late night drive-bys to see what girl he was bringing home.”
These two embark on a road trip seeking guidance from an angel, and visiting her father that is currently incarcerated for drug trafficking charges. Kaidan’s fathers the Duke of Lust, and that makes Kaidan be irresistible. Yes I said lust and he’s so Demon-Licious! He oozes sex appeal, and the females around him are helpless against his charm. he reveals to Anna that her father is the Duke of addiction, which doesn’t sound as exciting as Kaidan’s intoxicating charisma, but she’s a cute, funny, and relatable.
“I was in Love with him. In that moment of realization, he turned to me and stared. My emotional guard was down. I snapped my mind back into hiding mode but it was too late”
While on their way across country these two get to know each other, and we get a glimpse of just how tortured Kaidan is, as Anna slowly unravels his character, secrets, and soft spots. Anyone that knows me, knows its instant love for me and a tortured character. The more flaws the better and that’s most likely why Kaidan left me with a heavy chest many times while reading. The magnetic pull between these two is captivating and at times I felt I was a voyeur watching something sweet and devious at the same time. My only wish to this story is that we’re an an adult paranormal romance read so I could experince this story without the sexual tension because it drove me mad, but it was incredibly sexy.
“I wish, just once I could see your colors,” I whispered.
“We’ll, I’m glad you can’t. And I wish I’d never seen yours.”
He’d been right when he said the truth could hurt far worse than a lie.”
These two learn the hard way, that you can’t always have what you want, however you can’t make your heart do something that it doesn’t want to do. I was instantly enthralled in in this breathtaking Starcrossed lovers story involving Angels and Demons. The magnetic pull between these two is captivating and at times I felt I was a voyeur watching something sweet and devious at the same time. I would recommend this book for anyone wanting a unique world involving angels and demons, and love when it’s out of your reach. Wendy Higgins is an evil genius for ending this story with me wanting the next book immediately!
“I didn’t know if I’d ever see “—-” again, or when, but I knew I would love him all my life. We would always have our memories. The sound of each others laughter and the feel of each others lips. I’d always know he’d be willing to die for me. Nobody could take those things away.”
