DRAGONS ARE MY NEW FLAME
Half-human and half-wyr, Pia Giovanni spent her life keeping a low profile among the wyrkind and avoiding the continuing conflict between them and their dark Fae enemies. But after being blackmailed into stealing a coin from the hoard of a dragon, Pia finds herself targeted by one of the most powerful-and passionate-of the Elder races.
“I am an excellent f*ck,” she hissed. “I am the best thing that ever happened to your sorry, deluded, preejaculating ass. You just didn’t have the good taste to recognize it. And you know what? Now I don’t even know why I put up with you. I had a better sex life with five minutes and my hand in a hot shower.”
Dragon Bound starts out with Pia a Half Wyre being forced by ex scumbag boyfriend to steal from a dragon. Already this story has me wanting to delve into the story to know what would posses her to follow through with it and how does she pull it off. Her conscious takes over and she leaves an apology note to the Alpha-Licious Dragon names Dragos. Fortunately he becomes angry, determined to located the thief by any means possible and settle on a punishment. However once he sets his eyes on Pia he discovers he’d rather pet her than kill her. From that moment on he sets out to posses her in mind, body and soul.
I found Pia to be a likable heroine yet I didn’t love her. She wasn’t bad-ass but she wasn’t a wimp either. I just didn’t connect with her, but she still was enjoyable heroine because I thought her and Dragos shared cute and playful banter together that most likely wouldn’t have molded together as well with a more assertive character. But at the same time she was a bit damaged growing up as an outsider and having an in again off again ex boyfriend constantly making you feel worthless make me feel compassionate toward her.
“I am old and I am often cruel and calculating, and it is not safe to be around me when I am in a rage. I do not apologize for what I am. I am a predator, and I rule other strong-minded predators. But I do not mean to distress you.”
Dragos was one sexy beast of a dragon! He can light my fire any day! When he *GROWLS* that’s the hottest thing, it makes me want to listen to the book in audio just for those scenes alone. I love that he’s Alpha, he’s barbaric, he’s angry, he’s powerful, he’s sexy and he’s unapologetic for his uncivilized behavior. Yet he when he’s around Pia even when he’s all those things mentioned above he’s still trying to conform to be what she likes and tend to her needs as only a lover can do.
He laid a hand on her cheek. “You’re mine,” he said. “You can deny it, argue, throw fits try to run way. But. You’re. Still. Mine.”
I’m probably in the minority for saying this but, the story was a bit slower paced than I was expecting after hearing Thea Harrison’s writing to be compared to the likes of Nalini Singh and JR Ward. See I’m obsessed with Nalini Singh and JR Ward, so it was unfortunate that I went in with too much expectation because let’s be fair, those two authors are in a PNR category of their own. However, I still really enjoyed this book and I can’t wait to read the next book in the series because this was a fun start to a sexy new paranormal romance series. I can see why so many people love Thea Harrison’s writing because her world building is exceptional with fascinating paranormal creatures such as Dragons, Gryphons, Goblins, Fae, Witches, Shape shifters, and Gargoyles. She also writes smutty filled sex scenes that we’re so hot I had turn a fan on just to cool myself down a few times. This book has me thinking about sexy dragons now, and how can I find one for myself.
“It means, you stupid woman, that I am learning too. Now you listen to me. I never stop thinking about you. You’re with me everywhere I go but I miss you when we’re apart. I’ve already shown that I will kill for you. I would also die for you. You make me laugh. You make me happy. You’re my miracle and my home. If you so much as twitch, I get a hard on. I will always come for you, always want you, and always need you. We clear?”
The next book will be about “Tricks” and Thiago and I really enjoyed their characters. Whereas Thiago was charming Tricks was hilarious and I can’t wait to read their story next. I highly recommend this series, and I’m excited to see where Thea Harrison takes us in the next book!
