Welcome to the 12 Days of Morganville Madness in celebration of the upcoming release in one of my favorite YA series the 12th book Black Dawn. This tour is being generously hosted by NAL for Penguinn group. I’m delighted to welcome Rachel Caine to the blog today, as she’s going to share some insight into what goes into writing her New York Times Best Selling series that delves into the dark, gritty world of Morganville where the vampires rule, and the citizens are walking blood banks. Don’t worry though, because all you have to do to have a powerful vampire protecting you and your loved ones, is remember give blood when required, obey the rules, and always remember you can never leave! Welcome to Morganville!!
Welcome to Morganville where Vampires Rule
Title: Fade Out
Author: Rachel Caine
Series: Morganville Vampires #7
Publisher: Signet
Release Date: November 23, 2009
Without the evil vampire Bishop ruling over the town of Morganville, the resident vampires have made major concessions to the human population. With their newfound freedoms, Claire Danvers and her friends are almost starting to feel comfortable again…
Now Claire can actually concentrate on her studies, and her friend Eve joins the local theatre company. But when one of Eve’s castmates goes missing after starting work on a short documentary, Eve suspects the worst. Claire and Eve soon realize that this film project, whose subject is the vampires themselves, is a whole lot bigger—and way more dangerous—than anyone suspected.
“So, you’re new to Morganville. Welcome, new resident! There are only a few important rules you need to know to feel comfortable in our quiet little town:
-Obey the speed limits
-Don’t litter.
-Whatever you do, don’t get on the bad side of vampires.
Yeah, we said vampires. Deal with it.”
Fade Out begins with Eve getting her must sought after role of being cast as Blanche DuBois in A Streetcar Named desire in the local theater production. With that she’s busy in and has little time for anything besides rehearsals. All seems quiet in Morganville in the beginning as Rachel Caine leads us into false security. With Fade Out being the seventh book in the series it’s obviously that the citizens of Morganville or rather the residents of The Glass House are always in for a wild thrill ride when vampires are calling the shots.
Claire’s best friend Eve has a new friend and she comes across sneaky, manipulative and instantly feasts her eyes on Shane. With that being said, I’m not a fan and I can smell disaster quickly on its way! She’s in Morganville with a secret and devious plan to expose the Morganville Vampires putting everyone associating with her in danger. Eve is smitten with her charming personality and spends too much time with this friend. Many times I wanted to shout at her for being so naive and putting her friendship with Claire on the back burner. Poor Claire Not only has Kim decided she’s going to be Eve’s BFF oh and did I mention that Kim is also an ex of Shane’s? Claire and Shane are such an adorable couple. Yes, just when Claire’s life seems it cannot get anymore complicated well it can and it does, but luckily Kim goes missing leaving Claire to put together the pieces of the story. I didn’t think anyone could make Monica appear as sweet as a girl scout, yet Kim has accomplished that tasks. If Kim wasn’t enough of a problem she also has a new face in Morganville Ada trying to demolish Claire and Myrnin’s working relationship, which in this book it grows leaps and bounds.
“I heard this girl worked for Bishop,” said one of the guys, who had a tire iron resting on his shoulder. “Carrying around his death warrants. Like one of those Nazi collaborators.”
You heard wrong,” Shane said. “She’s my girl. Now back off.” Let’s hear from her,” said the leader of the pack, and locked stares with Claire. “So? You working for the vamps?”
Shane sent her a quick, warning glance.
Claire took in a deep breath and said, “Absolutely.”
Ah hell,” Shane breathed. “Okay, then. Run.”
I was pleasantly surprised to get a bit of a backstory with Amelie and Oliver. I know Amelie can be a ruthless ruler, but I have a soft spot for her and since she’s a vampire I wouldn’t expect anything less. Oliver now he’s the perfect villain I love and hate at the same time, yet I don’t trust him. For Shane, Michael and Eve fans Rachel Caine gives us a healthy dose.
“Myrnin wasn’t especially tall, but he was just…..strangely cool….definitely cover-model material.”
This goes without being said that my most favorite character in the entire Morganville series is Myrnin with his debonair Hollywood good looks, and his insane personality. He’s Claire’s boss and though he’s not a love interest I swoon each time he’s in a scene and I eagerly anticipate each page he will make another appearance. Myrnin is my greatest obsession in the Morganville series.
This book explores social media, love, trust, loyalty, and honor. If you’re new to Morganville then you must become aquatinted with this town in Texas, where you’ll want to leave but you’ll find you can’t! After twelve books in this exciting, edgy, dark and gritty, fantasy series I must say that I’m sucked into Morganville, and I can’t recommend this series enough!! Go read The Morganvile Vampires and I promise you’ll be hooked!! Please enter for your chance to win your very own copy of Fade Out signed by Rachel Caine.
“Welcome to Morganville. You’ll never want to leave.
And if you do……well, you can’t.
Sorry about that.”

Rachel Caine has enlightened us readers with a bit of insight into her mind while writing Fade Out with her own personalized questions and answers she provided below!
1. What kicked off the concept for this book?
FADE OUT was a book I wanted to write that really explored something I remembered from my high school and college years … of being in an intense, close friendship with someone and feeling betrayed and lost when a newer, shinier friend took my place. I didn’t want to break up Eve and Claire’s friendship for good, but I thought having Eve drawn to a fellow rebel girl who seemed temporarily cool was a great way to build even more trust between them in the end.
2. Which character do I think stood out in this book, and why?
Eve’s theatrical ambitions made me laugh. I’m not sure how fantastic a Morganville local theater production would be, but she’d certainly add some zest.
3. Five things I loved about writing this book:
A. I got to read A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE again
B. The whole idea of the hidden camera network was fun for me – and Kim’s secret obsession with Shane.
C. Oliver, in a play!
D. I kind of loved writing Kim’s snarky, slightly creepy presence in Claire’s life.
E. Myrnin, always.
4. Five things I didn’t love about writing this book
A. It was fun in concept to write Kim as a bit of a homewrecker, but when she actually started doing harm to the relationships between our four characters, it was a little bit painful to do
B. I wanted to do more with Kim’s ultimate plans to unveil Morganville as a vampire haven, but I didn’t have time and word count available to do it.
C. Well, I wish I’d actually written the performance of the play!
D. I was trying to figure out how to write the fact that Kim was recording sex tapes without saying that explicitly, and I think it came out a little, um, incoherent.
E. I wanted people to like Kim a little bit in the beginning, but I think I had Claire get onto her act a little too early.
5. If I could do this book over, what would I do differently, and why?
I’d probably stretch it out another 20,000 words and give it time to really breathe, so that I could build Kim’s character more gradually.
6. Favorite quoted passage from the book
“I like a good bunny slipper. I’m surprised you didn’t get the ones with fangs,” Claire said.
Myrnin’s eyes brightened. ”They have some with fangs? Excellent.”
7. What I learned from this book
I learned it was really quite difficult to write a character with a hidden obsession … not as easy as it seemed in the outline!
8. Fun research moment
Trying to recite lines from STREETCAR in Eve’s voice. What? I HAVE NO LIFE, PEOPLE.
Rachel Caine and NAL for Penguin has so generously provided a lucky reader of mine their very own signed copy of Fade Out and a Black Dawn book mark. Thank you and Good Luck!♥

I am new to the series. I have been picking up the books as I see them. Still haven’t got the first 2! Won’t start reading until I get them! Then I will have a reading frenzy!! Great contest, thanks:)
I love Morganville. My favorite Vamp is Myrnin. This is a cool give away
I’m brand new to Morganville and anxious to know about the characters! Thanks for the chance to find out!
I love these books.
I’ve read through Feast of Fools. I think I like Myrnin best because he’s so unpredictable.
My fav. is Eve always has been.I found this series through an anthology book.It was in Eve’s p.o.v. Was disapointed when i got first book and it was in Clair’s p.o.v but still love this series.Eve all the way.
I love these books. Claire would be my favorite.
My favorite character is Myrnin. He’s so crazy. I love that everyone has to constantly be on their toes around him.
i have yet to sink my teeth into these books.. but they look outstanding… something both my daughter and i could appreciate
I am not new, but I’ve only read up to the fourth book. I read the first three a long time ago and recently got back into the series. I’m not sure who is my favorite. Probably Amalie or Myrnin.
I’m new!
As much as Myrnin is greatess my favorite is Shane. There is just something so devoted and yummy about him!
Mine’s gotta be Myrnin
He’s so unpredictable, but always comes through in the end
I am NOT new to Morganville as I’ve read & re-read each book that’s come out so far & am anxiously awaiting BLACK DAWN’s release!
To Laura Thomas: Hurry up & get those first 2 books so your reading frenzy can begin … once it starts, you won’t want to stop!!!
I am new to Morganville
I’m sad to say (given what’s happening in books 11 and 12) my favorite character is Amelie. Well, kind of a three way tie between Amelie, Oliver, and Myrnin. They’re just so much fun!!! Ada was fun too, though she didn’t even make it to book eight.
I think I came into reading The Morganville Vampire series around the time that Ghost Town came out. I had read Twilight and The Vampire Diaries, even Vampire Academy. I thought to myself, I don’t know if I am interested in reading another vampire series. But this series really blows all of the others away. Even Twilight, and I am a really big fan. The characters had more depth, more sides. Each one finding strength that they didn’t know they had, or finding their softer side, a compassion they didn’t know they had. Each book gets better than the next with the plots developing and romances growing. And new things you learn about the characters each time. Add to that the wonderful plots and interesting steam-punk/paranormal world that Rachel Caine created, and you have a hit. I am a big fan and can’t wait for the next book. And a signed copy of a book would be icing on top of my delicious cake.
I am new to Morganville but my husband is in the middle of reading the series. He says his favorite character is Myrnin. He says he’s a crazy old vampire. lol
I have to say Michael is my favorite, but I’m only on book 5!

I am not new to Morganville. I have been reading this series for a while now. I would have to say that my favorite character is Shane because I just love smart mouthed characters that always have to make that funny little comment and that don’t care who they’re talking to when they make it.
I’ve been hanging out in Morganville for about a year now…I am rather fond of Oliver, as ebil as he is. Something about the hippie disguise just got to me…
I have only read the first two books in the series, so I guess I’m not technically new. My favorite character is definitely Eve. I just love her personality.
