I Was Lost Until You Saved Me
In the darkest corners of the night in Caldwell, New York, a conflict like no other rages. The city is home to a band of brothers born to defend their race: the warriorvampires of the Black Dagger Brotherhood.
Now back in the Brotherhood – and unrecognizable as the vampire leader he once was – Tohrment is physically emaciated and heartbroken beyond despair. When he begins to see his beloved in his dreams – trapped in a cold, isolating netherworld – Tohr turns to a self-serving fallen angel in hopes of saving the one he has lost. When he’s told he must learn to love another to free his former mate, Tohr knows they are all doomed . . .
Except then a female with a shadowed history begins to get through to him. Against the backdrop of the raging war with the lessers, and with a new clan of vampires vying for the Blind King’sthrone, Tohr struggles between the buried past, and a very hot, passion-filled future . . . but can his heart let go and set all of them free?
“My beloved was dead, he said out loud. She was…..dead..How ironic. He’d been mourning her this whole time, and yet somehow missing the point that was most obvious. She was not coming back. Ever.”
So I’m going to be honest, I entered into Lover Reborn with much trepidation. I went in prepared to be in emotional turmoil the entire time reading it because I knew Tohr moving on with a HEA was going to get ugly. I was right; It was ugly, it was messy, it was tumultuous, and it was beautiful. Luckily for me I reveled in this murky territory.
“I want to return the favor to you.”
Wow! Tohr was so much more sexy than I expected.. Tohr was broken beyond repair it seemed, and I wanted him to finally have the peace he deserved, and I saw no reason for him to be suffering without a mate forever. On that note I still found it a difficult task to replace Wellsie, and many times while reading I felt uncomfortable as if we were cheating on Welssie. I’m conflicted because I wanted Tohr to be happy but I liked Welsie better than No’One, and I kept thinking in the back of mind he was moving on too fast, he’s letting go too fast, he’s forcing it. However, the book takes place for an entire year, and he has been grieving for fifteen months prior to the beginning of Lover Reborn.
“I knew it was you,” he said softly. “The entire time…..I knew it was you.”
J.R. Ward was merciless on several occasions in this book with my delicate heart
“The truth was, she was calling something out of him, some kind of emotion, and those feelings were starting to turn gears inside of him that were rusted and cranky from lack of use. It terrified him. She Terrified him.”
No’One, can I say that I despised that silly name since she first stepped foot into the brotherhood mansion. Now that I’ve understood her story and inner self depicting turmoil I would say that name is fitting for her and thankfully she gets a new name to replace the ridiculous name she has carelessly given herself. No’One is the complete opposite of everything I enjoy about Xhex. Where Xhex is bold, strong, fearless, passionate, cunning, and ruthless, No’One is meak, mousy, fearful, and a walking example of co-dependency. I wanted No’One to be strong, assertive, what I got was a broken woman willing to be used to alleviate others sufferings only causing her pain.
this is what I wanted with No’One;
“Verily, you will have to kill me and drag my body out of here if you wish me to leave..”
This is what I got;
“He must never, ever know what beat within her heart for him. It would ruin everything.
Many times I wanted to shake her and make her stronger, and demand that she require respect from a lover, so while I didn’t dislike No’One I wanted someone less self sacrificing, and maybe a little bit more like her Sympath daughter Xhex.
“The orgasm was more powerful than anything she had ever felt. She knew earth. She knew the sanctuary. But this….was heaven”
WoW! What can I say about this voracious warrior Tohr. I had no idea just how much I would enjoy his lovemaking! Tohr was much sexier than I had imagined him to be. He was broken, and appeared almost beyond repair. His actions brought me to tears several times in this book. I’m not even sure I approved of the plot that brought him and No’One together because it seemed forced, and at the same time it seemed like it was the time to pull himself together and be a father to John, a lover to No’One, a warrior again, and LIVE. I adored Tohr and he had me in his court the entire time and then he decided to do something that made my blood boil!!! I had to shut the book, walk away, take a breather and force myself NOT to hate him.
“It was the strangest thing….Sax may have been related by blood to Qhuinn, but at the moment, he looked a lot like Blay had for years. Then again, unrequited was the same, no matter the features that reflected the emotion. Crap.”
Qhuinn & Blay, Qhuinn & Blay, Qhuinn & Blay, everyone that knows me is fully aware that I’m Team Qhuay ALL THE WAY! I missed them so much. This story warms my heart, breaks my heart, and I luxuriate in this delicious messy story. I don’t dislike Saxton at all, but him and Blay being together feels unbearable to read at times. We’re still winding down that path of Qhuinn loving Blay from afar and Blay loving Qhuinn in secrecy. I’m so emotionally wrapped up in the story, it’s feels like I’m a victim of unrequited love, but I praise that on the outstanding writing skills of Ward and her ability to make me suffer right along with these two sexy warriors.
Something happens with Qhuinn in this book that made me scream Nooooooooooooooooooo!!! How could Ward do this??? She took my heart that had already broken over Qhuinn & Blay then stabs me in the chest with her black Dagger causing me to bleed even more. It’s unforgivable, but thankfully Ward takes mercy on me, and doesn’t make me have to witness this disaster because I could barely handle knowing it occurred off screen. I’m sick over it, sickeningly sick!
Are you insane? Just because my name’s on his back, I’m suddenly a prisoner or some shit?”
Xhex and John Matthew are finding out the true meaning of the honeymoon is over. I really enjoyed being back in their story again. John Matthew is such a fierce and devoted hellren but his overprotective side leaves Xhex furious and rebelling to win back her independence. Overall these two are in love and nothing will come in between them except John Mathews need to protect Xhex, and Xhex’s need to be a warrior and prove she’s been an assassin for longer than John has been a Brother.
“No I want to bleed for you”
In case you’ve forgotten just how sexy John Mathew is, no worries there because Ward will keep reminding you in this book.
As the metal door opened down the way, both of them ducked their hands into their leather dusters and gripped guns. But it was just Zypher….with a triumvirate of ladies, all of whom were about as attractive as garbage next to a dinner plate. Beggars, choosers and all that, however. Besides, each had the foremost requirement: a neck.”
Xcor is still advantageously shrewd in seeking death of King Wrath, and he’s doing it with a vengeance. He’s cruel, cunning, deceitful but he has a softer side of good, hes honorable and self loathing thats slowly unraveling. That latter reminds me a bit of my first love in this series Zsadist at one time, so how I can I not have a small glimmer of hope that he can become good. With the help of his second in command former aristocrat Throe He would sell his soul for position over a dead Wrath. This makes me anxious because I don’t think I can take another mate losing theirs again. I’m in favor of Wrath, but the most favorable outcome for me would be them combining forces in the future and battling the lessors together. Then we have the chosen Layla that has given blood to these men to heal them while unknowingly getting caught up in desire.
You said you were here to help me, help her.” When there was no reply, Tohr’s voice lowere. “Lassiter, I’m on my knees here.”
Lassiter is such a hilarious, pop culture loving, devious, and false prophet of an angel, but he’s likable, and I want more!
“What was it about the cock and balls that made males think they had a lock on strength?”
I really look forward to getting to know the aristocrat Assail more, in upcoming books! He reminds me so much of my favorite former drug dealing Sympath, and we all know that’s the beautiful Fauhawk wearing, Cane toting, Fur coat wearing Rhevenge. Anyone reminding me of him is already on my radar. He’s got a respectable side to him, I think he’d prefer not to show it but I’m curious if he will get his own HEA as well.
Life was short, no matter how many days you were granted. And people were precious, each and every one, no matter how many you were lucky enough to have in your life. And love….love was worth dying for. Worth living for.
Overall this was such an emotionally riveting and exciting story. When I finished Lover Reborn, I was exhausted emotionally, but yet I’m eager to step right back into Caldwell, NY to be with my favorite warriors again. This book would have been a 5 star read for me but I’m petty. Lol. I can forgive Tohr being a bastard but I can’t shake the Qhuinn “thingy” in this book, I see that becoming a problem in later books….so I’m taking off 1/2 star for Ward torturing me, HA! I LOVED this story! It actually felt like Ward got down to business and it reminded me of earlier Black Dagger Brotherhood books. Thankfully it seems like with each new installment of these books Ward introduces new characters, and that’s so very brilliant of her because I want many more books in the Black Dagger Brotherhood world.
P.s. To those that have read the book and remembers Tohr taking about other Hellons that cheat on their mates, was anyone confused by that?? Is that new world building or something? Oh my I hope not! That’s sounds hideous.
Please allow me to share my favorite quote of the entire book:
