Desperately Wanting Wednesday #1

Desperatly Wanting Wednesday, hosted by Parajunkee's View

I have been impatiently anxiously waiting for for the release of Sacrificial Magic. I’m eager to be back in this dystopian world with Chess, my favorite Church Witch and Terrible *Sigh* the second in command in my fictional male harem.

Title: Sacrificial Magic
Author: Stacia Kane
Series: Downside Ghosts #4
Publisher: Harper Voyager
Release Date: March 27, 2012

When Chess Putnam is ordered by an infamous crime boss—who also happens to be her drug dealer—to use her powers as a witch to solve a grisly murder involving dark magic, she knows she must rise to the challenge. Adding to the intensity: Chess’s boyfriend, Terrible, doesn’t trust her, and Lex, the son of a rival crime lord, is trying to reignite the sparks between him and Chess. Plus there’s the little matter of Chess’s real job as a ghost hunter for the Church of Real Truth, investigating reports of a haunting at a school in the heart of Downside. Someone seems to be taking a crash course in summoning the dead—and if Chess doesn’t watch her back, she may soon be joining their ranks.

As Chess is drawn into a shadowy world of twisted secrets and dark violence, it soon becomes clear that she’s not going to emerge from its depths without making the ultimate sacrifice.

  1. I will enjoy skimming for my Terrible scenes. The excerpt with him was kinda MOST DEFINITELY hot! :D

  2. Jamie says:

There is no book (or books along with Chasing Magic) that I am looking more forward to in 2012. Iced and Endgame come in a very close second, but my love for Terrible knows no bounds!

  3. VanesMate says:

I can’t wait to read SM either!!! I can’t wait to get my grubby hands on that book….no one better not talk to me cuz I will not acknowledge anyone until I am done reading:)

    • MissVain says:

Oh Mrs. Vishous, I would HATE to be a university student calling in that day….if I were you, I would just unplug the phone at my desk…that way you don’t have to waste time by actually having to answer the phone just to put them on hold…;) hehe. I can’t wait for SM.:)

  4. Cat Russell says:

I must be in the minority, because I’m not looking forward to this at all. In fact, I forgot that it was even coming out.

  5. Miss Vain said: If that were true, I would have went to about 62 funerals for you by now….

LOL *falls off the bed laughing, unable to stop* Oh, aren’t you hilarious! Real joker! And I bet you’d say I wasn’t joking! That would be your response, oh, yup! *still cracking up, laughing* LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL

  6. Cat Russell says:

You should just ditch this whole blog thing and open up your own chat room.

  7. Becky says:

Okay, okay… you sucked me in. I moved this series up in by TBR pile. I’ll have to catch up so I can read this one with you guys when it comes out :)

    • MissVain says:

Oh Becky, its a must read!!! I promise you. You will fall in LOVE with Terrible. He’s my number two lover ;) right in between Bones and Barron’s. *sigh* The series is awesome!!! :) Please do catch up, you have until March.

  8. Alexa says:

I sadly did not like the first book in this series but since I own the second book I will have to give this one another shot.

I hope you enjoy this book once you get your hands on it. :)

  9. MissVain says:

    Alexa hi:)
I’m sorry to hear that you did not enjoy the first book in the series. :( It’s a bit of a hit or miss whether or not it peaks the readers interest or not. This series is a huge favorite of mine, but I loved it from the first book. I do have some friends however, that loved it after the second book.:)

What did you not like about the book? Perhaps maybe it’s something minor that will go away in the second book, is why I ask…was it the Downspeak? (the Downspeak becomes second nature as you go!) :) Was it Chess’ drug addiction? (that doesn’t go away) lol

Thank you for stopping by, and I really hope you have better luck with the next book, and if not there’s plenty of great books out there we can share!:))

    • Alexa says:

      Miss Vain,
It was the way the characters spoke, I also listened to the first book on audio so that might have had something to do with it. I’ve been trying to get into audio books because of the longer drives I take to see my boyfriend but audio is really a huge hit or miss thing with me. Maybe I should just read the second book instead of listening to it in order to see if I like it better.

The drugs and the storyline didn’t bother me, just the way they spoke got on my nerves a little but I might get use to it with time, who knows.

      • MissVain says:

Okay so I figured it was the Downspeak that turned you off. I’m also thinking it could have been the narrator as well, sometimes those don’t work out well for some books. Unfortunately.

How convenient for you to listen to a book while on your way to visit your bf, I don’t blame you that’s a great idea. How far do you live from your bf? I used to have a bf that lived an hour flight and I often read as well.

I’m thinking if you tried it again, the Downspeak will be much easier to read than to listen to……Once I read the first half of the first book, the Downspeak became second natured. :) Good luck, keep me posted on your reading!!:)

        • Alexa says:

I have to drive about 35-45 minutes to get to his house so that is a couple of chapters on an audio book. It helps to pass the longer drive if I’m listening to a book.

He won’t live a longer drive away forever so who knows how in touch I’ll stay with audio books.

          • MissVain says:

That’s a pretty clever idea Alexa. Those audio books to make the drive go quicker. :)

I think the audio is a fantastic idea, just not for Downside.:)
