The Peculiars

This dark and thrillingadventure, with an unforgettable heroine, will captivate fans of steampunk, fantasy, and romance.

On her 18th birthday, Lena Mattacascar decides to search for her father, who disappeared into the northern wilderness of Scree when Lena was young. Scree is inhabited by Peculiars, people whose unusual characteristics make them unacceptable to modern society. Lena wonders if her father is the source of her own extraordinary characteristics and if she, too, is Peculiar. On the train she meets a young librarian, Jimson Quiggley, who is traveling to a town on the edge of Scree to work in the home and library of the inventor Mr. Beasley. The train is stopped by men being chased by the handsome young marshal Thomas Saltre. When Saltre learns who Lena’s father is, he convinces her to spy on Mr. Beasley and the strange folk who disappear into his home, Zephyr House. A daring escape in an aerocopter leads Lena into the wilds of Scree to confront her deepest fears.

Royal Street

As the junior wizardsentinel for NewOrleans, Drusilla Jaco’s job involves a lot more potion-mixing and pixie-retrieval than sniffing out supernatural bad guys like rogue vampires and lethal were-creatures. DJ’s boss and mentor, Gerald St. Simon, is the wizard tasked with protecting the city from anyone or anything that might slip over from the preternatural beyond.
Then Hurricane Katrina hammers New Orleans’ fragile levees, unleashing more than just dangerous flood waters.
While winds howled and Lake Pontchartrain surged, the borders between the modern city and the Otherworld crumbled. Now, the undead and the restless are roaming the Big Easy, and a serial killer with ties to voodoo is murdering the soldiers sent to help the city recover.
To make it worse, Gerry has gone missing, the wizards’ Elders have assigned a grenade-toting assassin as DJ’s new partner, and undead pirate Jean Lafitte wants to make her walk his plank. The search for Gerry and for the serial killer turns personal when DJ learns the hard way that loyalty requires sacrifice, allies come from the unlikeliest places, and duty mixed with love creates one bitter gumbo.

Are you a fan of Carolyn Crane‘s Disillusionist’s Trilogy like I am?? Well if you subscribe to her newsletter then check your email because she surprised us devoted fans with a Simon novella for FREE!!!

Devil’s Luck

THERE’S A THIN LINE BETWEEN LOVE AND DOOM.

No wager is too outrageous for Simon Fitzgerald, the most reckless of the Disillusionists. His dark secrets drive him to take increasingly extreme risks, but he’s never lived so quite so dangerously as when he hooks up with Midcity’s most powerful prognosticator.

Fawna Brady is tormented by the destinies she sees for those around her. To Fawna, knowledge of the future is a cage she’d do anything to escape. She’s stunned to discover a taste of the freedom for which she yearns at the side of Simon, the one person in the world who despises everything she is, everything she stands for.

Simon’s defiant attitude toward destiny captivates Fawna, but will her love destroy him? And will Simon rush headlong into the delicious doom she offers? Thank you Carolyn Crane for being so awesome! ♥

Oh I have had The Iron Duke on my shelf forever, tell me what you think. I just finished Angelfire yesterday and I had some problems with it in the beginning to middle but the ending really pulled everything together it is 4/5 for me.

I have yet to read Soul Screamers even though I own that bind up. Let me know if you plan on reading that anytime soon. :)

    • MissVain says:

Okay so I’m reading The Iron Duke now, and I’m already enjoying it but I’m going to try to get some extra reading in tonight of it so I can probably give you a much better update tomorrow! ;)

Gosh beginning to middle?? That doesn’t sound too good, but it must have been pretty enjoyable if you still rated it 4 stars. :)

Are you interested in buddy reading Soul Screamers or just asking? I want to catch up on it because I have a feeling the next Soul Screamers book will be coming up on netgalley soon, and I wanted to read it. I love Rachel Vincent’s adult series.

  13. The Peculiars looks amazing! I actually haven’t seen it before, so I’m glad you receied it this week. I love that one of the characters is a librarian (I’m not a librarian, just a teacher, but one day, maybe!). Enjoy your books.
